Pinterest in the Classroom

1. I'm familiar with Pinterest in my personal life but I never really considered the way educators can use it as a tool. 2. As a teacher I would like to use my Pinterest as a tool for parents of my students. Parents can get on my Pinterest and find activities that they can do at home to improve their children's learning. 3. A strength of Pinterest is being able to group things into boards. I also love that you can take information from almost any website and pin it to a board. Instead of bookmarking several websites or taking notes its all in one spot. 4. A downfall of Pinterest is that sometimes when you click the pin it does not take you to a direct website. 5. I personally love Pinterest! I think it is a great tool for organizing thoughts and plans.

My Prezi

My Prezi was made as a welcoming gesture to my students and their parents of my K-3 Special Education class. Most of the information is about what to expect from me and the curriculum for the upcoming year. Included is a little information about my personal life as well. Information includes what we will be learning, my experience in the classroom, and why Special Education is important.

This was not my first time using Prezi, although I still had some trouble in the beginning because of the computer format I was using. Once I switched computers it was smooth sailing. I really enjoy using Prezi and can see myself using it for lessons. I feel like it is something students would enjoy too. It seems to be a great combination of professional and fun.

Three Great Teachers Blogs

http://breezyspecialed.blogspot.com/

I really enjoyed reading Breezy Special Ed! I like that Brie, the blogger, includes pictures as examples for what she does in the classroom. I also like that she has tabs for different subjects, that makes it easier to find something specific you may be looking for. She gives great resources for other teachers to use in their classrooms. I enjoy reading that I share some teaching beliefs with this blogger. On top of the great information Brie has I love the look of her Blog. Its colorful, inviting, and still looks professional.

Teaching Special Thinkers is a fantastic Blog for not only giving advice for in the classroom, but also has resources for information about disabilities and other things that make our students "special." I think it's a great idea to have a list of tagged words that you can click on and have multiple posts show up that contain those words. That makes it easy for teachers to find what they are looking for. It's interesting that this blogger has a tab that leads to a website where teachers can buy and sell teaching material. I had no clue such a great resource existed!

This Blog has great resources and ideas for teaching, but also gives great advice to special education teachers on how to manage their stress and time. That is so useful for any teacher, especially in the emotionally stressful field of special education. This blog makes the reader feel like they are not going through the difficulties of teaching alone. Teaching Learners with Multiple Needs also gives lesson plans for different ages of students. It was great to read the posts on the right side that were linked to different tips, whether it was about seizures in the classroom or learning where to find scissors for special education students. This Blog is definitely going to be one of my favorites for information!

Welcome to my Blog

Hello everyone, my name is Abby Brown and I'm excited to share this educational journey with you!

I'm a full-time barista and I love my job! Enjoying your job/career is something I find very important; if you don't enjoy what you do a big part of your life will be miserable. I spend most of my free time babysitting and dog sitting. When I have "real" free time I enjoy watching or playing any sports, I am VERY competitive at anything you put in front of me. I love soccer and throwing shot put. Before I started throwing shot put I did not know a person could enjoy throwing an inanimate object so much, and now I literally dream about it. I collect rare coins and I also have a slowly growing collection of football cards. This summer I am expanding another hobby of mine, photography. I will be running a Photo Couch, which is similar to a photo booth, that is a part of my brother's photography company.

I am blessed to say that one of my favorite hobbies is being incorporated into my career, helping people! I love children and I love helping people, so naturally I am drawn into teaching. While in high school I was able to take classes that had me tutoring and assist teaching in both elementary and high school Special Education classrooms. Since taking those classes Special Education has become a passion of mine. I want to be a teacher provides kids with a fun and nurturing learning place. I want to set a goal for all of my students, surpass that goal, and keep setting new ones. I am a strong believer that students with specials needs will only succeed if they are pushed past the educational limits they are given.

Thank you for taking time to read my Blog, I look forward to Blogging with you all!
